I also hear what you are saying, that the Epoch Times article mentions that the Berkey has a pesticide in the filter. I think the link below to the interview of the Berkey creator may be helpful. James Shepard, Berkey founder, explains there is silver in the filter but the EPA has not clarified why the black filter is now considered to be a pesticide containing product.
Hopefully that will make sense.
In the meantime, there are other filter options but Berkey has usually come out as one of the best in removing a long list of contanimants.
They, Berkey, have followed every EPA guideline and in my opinion are now being targeted. It was a while back when I listened but I believe the black filters contain some silver to help with filtration and that is what is being targeted. To my knowledge they do not contain pesticides to promote filter longevity so if they can win this lawsuit I will gladly buy a bunch of black filters!
I am so glad that you asked this b/c it is getting very confusing! A trusted site is https://bigberkeywaterfilters.com. If you put into the search bar on their site, the word lawsuit, information willl come up about a lawusit regarding counterfeit filters. At the end of the article they show how to identify counterfeit filters. This site also states they do not sell their filters on Amazon. If you put into the search bar, lawsuit and EPA, the current lawsuit information will come up.
This site does have black filters still available. When I spoke to the lawyer representing Berkey he stated that some sellers do have them and this looks like a trusted site and is an authorized Berkey dealer. Since I sent my filters to our son and his family in Thailand to make sure they have plenty to hold them over, I just ordered filters from this site.
On the sites you are looking at, check to see if they are offering the Bourox filter and if they are a authorized Berkey dealer. That should offer you some clues.
I’m in the UK & use Wrekin filters for my Berkey.

What are your thoughts with Berkey using a pesticide to protect the longevity of their filters?

There was a really good interview by Mike Adams from Natural News with the Berkey creator.

Do you have a trusted link for Berkey. There are several links out there and the models look identical. There’s usaBerkeyfilters.com, berkeyfilters.com, berkeywaterfilter.com...😳
