Organic food DOES contain pesticides and herbicides
But not the types or amounts that are found in conventional foods
Even the Term “Organic” is not as Wholesome as You May Think.
I previously stated that organic foods cannot be sprayed with chemicals such as glyphosate in the U.S. This was true; however, what I did not realize (I don’t know why this was never clarified to us in school) was that organic foods can be sprayed with “approved” chemicals.
Natural or non-synthetic pesticides are allowed by the USDA National Organic Standards here in the U.S.
An example would be a naturally occurring microscopic fungus used to infect and fight targeted insects.
The crops cannot be sprayed with synthetic man-made pesticides; however, I did not know that under very special circumstances, the National Organic Program allows synthetic pesticides to be used under highly controlled applications.
Therefore, organic farmers have restricted access to 25 synthetic active pest control products, but this is still a small number compared to the 900 registered for use in conventional farming.
The UK also has 28 approved pesticides for organic farming. Some of these are natural products such as spearmint oil, citronella, and quartz sand.

Take rotenone, for example…
An “organic” pesticide that caused Parkinson’s-like symptoms in rats during research trials, and is believed to attack the energy-producing mitochondria in our cells.
Or, just take the fact that when Consumer Reports purchased a thousand pounds of tomatoes, peaches, green bell peppers, and apples in five cities and tested them for more than 300 synthetic pesticides…
They found traces of them in 25% of the organically-labeled foods.
And yes, the same synthetic pesticides we KNOW are linked to symptoms and diseases like fatigue, memory loss, diabetes, cancer, weight gain — just to name a few.
The point is, we’ve released so many toxins into our environment that there’s no real way to escape…
Okay, so that is a little depressing.
You spend all this effort and money on organic foods, which are still contaminated!
Sadly, these toxins are ubiquitous in our environment now, so it is more critical than in the past to stay healthy and release toxins by supporting your detoxification pathways, hydrating, eliminating, sweating, exercising, staying at a healthy weight, growing as much of your food as you can, and getting to know your local organic farmers and supporting them.
So, your food will still contain lower amounts of pesticides but will more than likely have some residue levels.
Some countries have stricter regulations than the US and the UK.
What about where you live?
Organic Brands. Which Are Not Owned By Big Corporations.
Even organic brands are bought out by or owned initially by big processed food brands.
Cornucopia has a list of independent organic brands you can support when shopping for organic products.

Surprised that the Organic Valley brand is on the list.
The plants that we eat already contain about 10K times more naturally-occurring (produced by the plants) carcinogens that anything we spray on them. Plants can make excellent medicines, but not the best food.
