I don't know who designs food studies, but most of the meals look like cafeteria food. I couldn't eat either of those study options; if I ate all those carbs I'd gain at least three pounds a day!
If I'm not mistaken, the same companies provide food service to schools/universities, nursing homes, and correctional facilities. Horrifying "food", all of it.
I was concerned when my parents moved to an apartment in an elderly residential community and they were very excited about not having to cook because they could go to the dining area. Luckily, after less than a month of that food they realized they needed to go back to cooking for themselves.
The food in geriatric care settings (at least whem I used to work in them) cost pennies to a couple of dollars at most per meal so the profit was huge. They just had to meet macronutrient and caloric criteria. There was never any mention of other nutrients, additives, artificial sugar and so forth-all that was perfectly fine!
As a 61 YO I’ve been doing keto/carnivoire for a few years
I can not even imagine being plant based
But that’s me.
We sprint and hill climb still....plus just feel great over all
No meds....no aches and pains
Just trying to keep it simple
Eat a bit ancestral.
I did do vegetarian back in the day then got diagnosed with pre-diabetes.
So went on to try keto around 2017..... brought numbers way down and energy way up
Brain fog gone.
Again that’s just me but so far feel great.
Me too! I eat to live instead of living to eat now.
That is good to hear as most people in society do live to eat and not the other way around.
Wonderful! Keep up the great work!
I had a look at the meals. They look like something that would be prepared by someone who resents having to cook, for someone they don't like. 😝
Interesting article. Thank you.
I know. The compensation must have been really good for the participants to get them to eat these unappetizing meals.

Or it looks like meals prepared in a nursing home. Same here, I can't overdo it on carbs even if they are whole food sources.
