Was AT the beach today and on a towel for 20 min one side. UV was 7.3. Two days ago did the other side same thing. As I was leaving numerous people were spraying on sunscreen, why aren't the environmentalists screaming about all the crap in the air when they spray that stuff?
Don't use sunscreen at all just stay out of the sun most of the time.
I have had a skin cancer that was poorly treated by a dermatologist who gouged a serious hole in my nose (he said he wanted to be safe in case it was a dangerous cancer) - only to find that the cancer wasn’t a dangerous one. I forget the name of the cancer. He also warned me to put nothing on the wound that even sounded like food - no vitamin E etc. I never went back to him. And have had no more skin cancer. I get a lot of sun and am a strawberry blonde. I try to protect my face. As a 73 yr old, I am a bit vain and am trying to get no more wrinkles.
I've rarely used sunscreen, and haven't for many years. For the last two or three years, I've had some slow growing spots on my scalp (my hair is very thin on top and I'm out in the sun a lot) that I believe were basal cell carcinoma, judging by pictures of it (never biopsied). My dad had several of these during his lifetime. A few weeks ago, I began drinking Essiac tea daily, and after about a week the top layer of these spots began peeling off, and after two more weeks it's just about completely gone. I can still feel them with my fingertips, but my son says he can't even see them now. If this hadn't worked, my next move would have been to try Curaderm.
Thanks for everything that you write. It's always interesting and informative.
BTW, I just left a comment on your appendix article that you might find interesting. I meant to comment when I first read the article, but I was very busy at the time, and then I forgot.
I've been meaning to make my own essiac tea and keep it on hand or maybe drink a cupful every few days- maybe preventative? Did you buy each herb or a brand of it premade? As stated in the article, the black Salve is purported to be more effective than curaderm and the link for it is in the post.
My wife and I have been making Essiac off and on for almost thirty years (she passed away four years ago). Our original source supplied the individual herbs. After they went out of business, we bought from Starwest Botanicals for a while, but they sell the herbs already blended. For the last eight or ten years, we've bought from the Herbal Healer. They call theirs 4-Herb blend, but it's the correct herbs individually packaged (I read that someone has trademarked the name Essiac and that other companies should not be using it, although I see that some are).
We have never purchased pre-made tea, since it's incredibly expensive and you really don't know what you're getting.
If you decide to buy from Herbal Healer, the preparation instructions on the package are wrong. They do send an instruction sheet along with your purchase, but even it doesn't specify using distilled water, which I've always used to insure maximum purity and extraction. If you've never made it before, I can give you some tips- learned the hard way - that make it much easier.
Along with EWG's app/site, there's a couple of other apps/browser extensions that have come out that are also useful for scanning products for toxic ingredients:
Once again my natural intuition proves to be correct. I always tried to minimize sunscreen, only using it at times and body locations when my exposure was likely to cause a burn without it. The past couple years I have learned about the chemical concerns of sunscreen. No surprise… another source of toxins. This year I have been going out of my way to build a nice tan, and once I approach my exposure limit, I just stay in the shade or cover up with clothes and a hat.

Think about all that sunscreen in the ocean too.

Thank you for this information. Very helpful. Good to know about the water type.

Thank you for sharing-i looked both apps up as I've never heard of either one.

Where can one buy curaderm?
Sadie, read my comment above.
