Consumer Reports produce chart indicating organic and non-organic fruit and vegetables and the pesticide risk.
According to the chart, organic is not always better.
UPDATE on the sprayers at Natural Grocers: They use only water in their sprayers.
Pesticide Comparison on Organic and Non-Organic Produce
Consumer Reports has a helpful color-coded chart that compares conventional and organic produce that is US-grown and imported to help you make food choices with the lowest pesticide residue.
Some of the findings
For instance, bell peppers grown in the US are a very high-risk food, but organic imported bell peppers are low-risk.
Another example is green beans. Conventional, imported, and organic imported beans fall into the very high-risk category! However, that was the only produce in the organic section that fell into the very high-risk category.
Using the chart may also help you save money. For instance, conventional and organic imported bananas are the same, as they are in the low-risk category.
You may also be able to buy non-organic broccoli, carrots, and cilantro, as both organic and non-organic fall into the very low-risk category. On the other hand, conventionally grown kale was a high-risk food, and even imported organic kale was a moderate-risk food.
