I've been taking various types of collogen in the last 5 years or so. I also have read Dr. Gregor's recent posts on collagen which echo what you wrote. When I take neocell I noticed my nails growing longer and stronger. I bought a liquid at Costco recently and so didn't by more neocell and the brand from Costco doesn't have the same effect and doesn't say where it was sourced from. I think I'll go back to Neocell. I also use Dr. Axe's protein-collagen powder, but not always. It puts all the types of collagen together, and you mentioned not doing that.. Dr. Gregor also warned about some of the 'junk' put into collagen, by-products of animals which shouldn't be used. That makes me wary too. I don't think i'll ever want to eat chicken feet! I have taken other vitamins for aches and pains which have definitely helped, like artho soothe supreme - . And because it is not collagen, I can see why it works, by strengthening other parts of my body. There are mussel and glusosamine in the artho, along with other active ingredients, and it does help with joint pain. Bottom line, collagen from neocell definitely helps my nails, possibly hair and skin. and maybe whole body collagen too, another Designs for Health product. I wish I knew more. My last bone density showed bones regrowing, but from what? Not sure.

That's a positive sign that you have bone improvement! But I understand, frustrating when unsure what is doing it. Exercise and using weights can also cause bone changes (in case you added that in).

I use Mercola's Organic Bone Broth Collagen Powder - Chocolate. Mix it with our coffee in the morning to make a mocha. Been using it for at least 6 months and (I guess from this type III I wouldn't notice much difference) and I don't! It's kind of expensive so not sure how long I'll continue.

Here's the link if you are interested.

I would think that if by the 6 month mark of regular use you would see some skin, hair, nail, improvement and if not perhaps try a different product for 6 months and compare.

Agreed but it does make a good mocha. I've noticed that without exception any of the vitamins that I take really don't seem to have ANY effect on me whatsoever. From the get go we were eating good foods and try to control things, don't take any meds and really I wonder sometimes if I am not just wasting money on supplements!

Thank you for the information. My husband and I have been using collagen for many years. We started with Further Food, but due to some customer service problems, switched to Perfect. I can't say I've noticed any difference to hair and nails, but my husband says he has. Since it is sometimes difficult to get buy in from my husband on healthy changes, I'll take it as a win. Late 50s early 60s in age.

I LOVED the benefits...thick hair and nails, better skin, joints felt better...but it didn't dawn on me (yes I'm stupid) it was protein! I have never digested protein well. In the 90's when protein shakes became a thing I'd gain not lose! I put on about 20 lbs before I knew it with collagen! I'm on enzymes for it now. Homeopathic MD said I'd be on these 2-5 years (🤯), but I stay far away from extra protein. I get enough in my food intake. I also read an article recently only 5mg is necessary and alot of powders have 10mg per scoop. I've often wondered if it doesn't have something to do with my body type? I've always been very muscular. I can walk by weights and get muscles. I am in my 50's and can mow a few times and look like I've been lifting weights. Unfortunately, I also gain weight more easily. It's hard to find information on the internet about collagen causing weight gain, but I found a few articles and met a few people who can't use it either. Depressing since it really does help! I buy Native Path and my husband still takes it, but I only put half a scoop in his am coffee. You can't taste it either! They do have flavored. It's Bovine 1 & 3. It's 👍 paleo, 👍 keto, dairy free, gmo free, and gluten free. It's definitely high quality. I definitely don't recommend the collagen made with shellfish. Too many people are allergic to that.
