Thank you for this. Unfortunately, this seems to be a more difficult problem to deal with than pesticides in coffee, but awareness of a problem is the only way to solve it.
Regarding zeolite products: Exley wrote, "In brief, no avoid at all costs. Read my book and various comments throughout my substack if you want to know more about this."
There are a few comments in which he addresses them briefly, including clinoptilolite, about which he wrote, "Not long ago I was asked by the German government to review the efficacy and safety of commercially available aluminosilicate products including clinoptilolite. My opinion then as now was that there is no evidence of efficacy (with respect to Al toxicity) and no evidence that they are safe for human consumption. Just my opinion." This is especially concerning to me as far as the Cytodetox product goes, as it's literally designed to enter the brain.
Some of his zeolite comments I believe are based on old zeolite information. I did a post on zeolite for this reason and based on the studies I read, a nanoparticle zeolite does not add Al to the body. I still want to do more research on the topic but at this point I think a reputable zeolite product could be an option for the heavy metals we are exposed to daily (btw technically Al is not a heavy metal) but is included when toxicity is discussed.
I need some advice. I go to a functional medicine doctor (as of 2018) and she did a heavy metal study. She detoxed me with various methods. I remember one was charcoal. In July of 2018 I quit coffee because it was making my heart race at night and also is not good for my osteopenia. I started green tea and loved it. Now I'm not so sure. I'm planning to drink one cup of coffee a day (will find some organic coffee for sure). The thing is, I no doubt have sleep apnea (will verify in April), so anything that interferes with sleep is not good. Next time I go to my doctor, I will ask about charcoal. I'm mainly concerned with the aluminum in tea. I also had an MRI years ago and the gadolinium showed up on the heavy metals test :(
Charcoal is only beneficial for recent toxin exposure. You can still drink green tea but purchase organic young leaf tea. You will have to examine labels or contact the manufacturer. As I said in the post, Mountain Rose does contain some young leaf teas. Calling maybe be preferable since not all the tea titles indicate leaf age. For brewing, as one commmenter mentioned, pay attention to what you brew with. A glass or stainless steel kettle and press may be best.
Hi Karen, thanks for the post. I stumbled upon Dr. Exley's work several months ago after seeing mention of moving away from Aluminum in a Mercola Keto Cookbook. I primarily drink coffee as opposed to tea, save for occasional green iced tea (decaf). I was unable to verify whether the tubing within the coffee maker I had was aluminum (indeed most of the visible internal parts were plastic as well) so I went with a stainless steel percolator I picked up on Amazon for $30. It took some time and effort but I finally deciphered how much and how long to brew, etc. I also moved from my aluminum\Teflon cookware to Le Creuset Enameled Cast Iron cookware - inexpensive from Costco. Very heavy and much more work to clean but at least there is no aluminum. Evidently, aluminum keeps making its way into more and more products. I had to give up coconut water as all the packages, while paper/cardboard on the outside, evidently have some kind of aluminum coating on the inside.
As regards the silica water treatment for removing aluminum from the body, I did move to Fiji water from Costco bottled (plastic) water. The containers are much more firm than the Costco version and costs like 10x as much ($2 a liter), but it is plastic as you note. I am on well water with a softener, both new to me in this house as past homes have been on city\town water and and all I have is a Brita pitcher so I have testing and a decision to make given what you shared in your last water article, not to mention how best to replace minerals removed by the softener. One video that may be of interest is how to make your own silica water, which I originally found through Dr. Exley's site. Though I should warn in the video, the guy is using plastic containers for everything! I found this post when trying to track it down, the how to video is well down the page:
I like to read his posts and others in the health space but I still use my own critical thinking skills and do not take anyone's statements at face value. For instance, when everyone was on (or is on) the keto or carnivore bandwagon, I am not for various reasons.
As for his incorporation of a "medium", I find it odd that many who are interested in nutrtion follow and do as the "medical medium" states. This person has no health background and gets his information from spirits. I do not support his claims for a couple reasons, including, he is giving dietary advice from above to the masses yet the masses should not all follow the same diet. Also, I come from a very intuitive family and asked a family member who is a professional reader what she thought of the MM and she and other professionals she works with said they do not give overall advice from above to the masses and would be wary of someone like this (they were not familiar with the MM). He probably still sells keto products because they sell, just like the MM has sold a lot of his books. I am not saying they are lying but it is not where I am going to get my health guidance from at this point in time.
It sounds like you have made a lot of health changes and that is great-it is a learning process. On the cast iron-I wonder if I will still be able to use my heavy skillets when I am older! Personally, even if it was silica water, I just cannot bring myself to drink from plastic bottles unless I really have no other option.
Thanks for the reply. I spoke with a friend who has had a career in software and spent time in Los Angeles. He said it was common for business people, particularly executives, to consult such mediums. I really had no idea this was\is done.
very nice to talk about water it is sooo important. I use water for treatment (balneotherapy) for years, and i use charcoal in water befote drinking. I also strongly recommend it to patients.
In fact, I use a Brita for 1st stage filtering and then pour it in a big 2lt jar with kishu. It stays there for sevetal hours before drinking, as water needs to be close to you for some time to adjust to your frequency.
concerning coffee, i only want to add that it is important what metal is used in the pipes of the coffee machine. good machines use copper or steel the barristas keep telling me. However, there are traditional Aluminium Italian coffee makers, which I consider harmful.
Afriend told me, why do Italians have no issue? Well, italian springs are full of silica, and italians consume lots of spring water. Ergo, according to Dr Exeley s wonderful research, the silica rich water kerps them at safer levels, or at least the trafitional types...
Many commercial businesses use Bunn coffee makers, which have steel heating elements. For those who want a drip maker for the home, the only one that I know of is the "Beautiful by Drew Barrymore", sold at Walmart. It's inexpensive and it makes great coffee.
As far as your friend goes, ask him why Italy has Alzheimer's clinics throughout the country if they have no issue.
We have a stainless steel coffee press. I tell people to avoid the coffee machines in hotels because they are never cleaned but I did not give thought to the machine components that could transfer Al into the coffee. Here in Colorado, there are areas with natural spring water but the spring water by us is sulphur rich (very strong rotton egg smell emits from it) but sulphur also has beneficial properties. The downside to silica water if you do not have direct acccess is not only the cost but is it in plastic bottles.

I will close that I was dumbfounded to discover only yesterday that Mercola publicly opposes keto diets and began doing so nine months ago!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flbgJBP7sko
He still sells plenty of keto stuff through his company, which he evidently manages with the help of a medium!
