Why does junk food taste so good and how to stop eating it; Medical care versus nutrition for your health: A real life example
A story of a person's experience with holistic and convential care; the real reason why junk food causes you to overeat
A Patient’s Story with Conventional and Holistic Practitioners
A patient experiencing chronic fatigue went to his conventional doctor, who ran blood tests and said everything was normal. The patient then went to see a holistic practitioner who ran additional tests and suggested dietary changes based on the results and from listening to the patient (very critical).
Within 3 weeks, the extreme fatigue subsided. He went back to his conventional doctor to tell them about the results. He wanted to give this holistic practitioner’s information to the conventional doctor, thinking he would want it since the conventional doctor could not figure out the cause of the fatigue.
Instead, the doctor said, “No, I don’t need that information.”
I hate to be a cynic, and I am sure this is not the case for all doctors, but many do not care about helping their patients because if they did care that their patients got better, they would want to know what this other practitioner did.
I have seen this personally with conventional medicine and veterinary medicine-they have zero interest in knowing what worked.
Just ask yourself-is that the kind of doctor you want to trust your health with?
Bliss Point. Flavoring. Sugar.
How You Can Stop the Cycle of Fast-Food/Processed-Food Addiction
One way to improve your health is to reduce or eliminate fast food and processed foods from your diet. Easier said than done.
Giving up fast food/junk food is difficult due to the bliss point, added sugar, and flavoring. Highly paid food scientists create these food-like products to ensure they hit a specific point of texture, sweetness, and saltiness so that you cannot stop with one french fry….These foods are a mixture of colorings and dyes, artificial flavorings, sugar, refined grains, refined inflammatory oils, and other additives.
They created the perfect food-like addictive product.
It is no wonder that these food-like products are linked to obesity and a host of physical and mental health issues. Typically, all these food-like products are a mixture of soy, corn, wheat, and sugar, which is not exactly what your body needs.
They are high in refined carbs, high in sugar, low in vitamins and minerals, and are inflammatory. The sugar and refined carbs can trigger dopamine, giving you a short-time high that you will ultimately crave.
The video link below discusses the flavorings added to junk food and their addictive qualities that contribute to overconsumption. Since many people think that the addictive qualities of junk food are just about the sugar content, this is a great eye-opener that will make you realize that artificial flavorings have a lot to do with the desire for junk food.
Therefore, health is not just about eating less; exercising more.
If you eat fast food/processed food, first identify why you consume it.
Is it because it is convenient?
Is it because it is cheap and you are on a strict food budget?
Is it because you like the taste?
Is it because you crave it?
Is it because that is where and what everyone else you know wants to eat, so changing would be too hard?
Is it because you are tired and do not have time to prepare healthier foods?
Is it because you have always eaten this way, and the thought of changing is overwhelming?
Once you have identified why you consume processed foods/fast foods, you can create a plan to make a change. Identifying the obstacles is the first step in understanding the problem.
Giving up Junk Food
Before you decide to go cold turkey, have a plan. If you order fast food every day at work for lunch, what will you substitute it with? Will you prepare a meal at home or order lunch from healthier places?
Dietary Facts
You do not need to consume three meals per day and snack all-day
You do not need processed carbs and refined oils in the diet
You do not need refined grains. (Whole grains can be beneficial).
Your dietary needs are specific to you and will change throughout your lifetime.
Your conventional doctor does not have a nutritional background and should not be giving you dietary, herbal, or supplement advice.
