Natural remedies for gallbladder stones; what to do when you get a dozen eggs daily
Gallbladder Stones
Anyone who has passed gallbladder or kidney stones knows how painful it can be. It can take years for stones to develop and cause an issue. Some people can pass stones naturally, whereas others may need medical intervention.
Some causes and contributors include: dehydration, an acidic diet, acidic bile, obesity, long-term estrogen replacement (which can suppress bile), excess calcium or imbalance with other minerals, excess vitamin D, low magnesium, and gout, which can put you at greater risk.
If you are unsure if your pain is related to stones or having severe pain, seek medical care. For those who know they have stones but are having mild pain, the following supplements and natural remedies may be helpful. Always check with your healthcare provider before adding any new supplement to your dietary regimen. Remember, these are home remedies, so research on their benefits is lacking.
Herb: Chanca Piedra, known as the stone breaker, is an herb from Peru often used for kidney and gallbladder health. This herb may inhibit stone production and assist with the passing and breaking existing stones.
Magnesium chelate-you may need 1-2 grams daily (work with a professional to determine the dose). Most people have a magnesium deficiency since our soil is depleted due to a lack of crop rotation and inadequate soil replenishment. In the case of stones, magnesium will help to bind to oxalates and help prevent the creation of calcium oxalate and calcium phosphate. If you take a calcium supplement, take it with meals to reduce the risk of future stone formation.
Brand: Planetary Herbals Stone Free. This product contains many herbs that can be beneficial for someone with stones, and it does not contain Chanca Piedra, so purchase Chanca Piedra separately.
At-home remedies:
Apple cider vinegar seems to be a cure-all! In the case of stones, consume 1 T. in warm water three times daily until symptoms resolve.
Castor oil pack: I have used this remedy since my boys were little to help with digestive issues. I suggest keeping a castor oil kit on hand. You can find this online or in natural health stores. You will only need a hot water bottle, but some people will add essential oils to the castor oil. Placing it in the area of pain may help ease the passage of the stones. Two brands are Heritage and Baar products which provide wool or cotton flannel or have a disposable option.
Chickens and What to do With the Eggs!
We are getting around 11-13 eggs daily, which will slow down over the winter. That is a lot of eggs!
I have been freezing eggs in ice cube trays-you must beat them first and then pour them into ice cube trays or muffin trays. Eggs are also great to barter with for other goods and services.
Banana Bread with 4-5 eggs per loaf
I went a little heavy with the chocolate on this loaf!
This recipe is easy to make and does not contain added sugar! I doubled the recipe and made two loaves. If your eggs are not large, then use more than 4. Our eggs are closer to medium size, and I have used 5 eggs per loaf recipe. This bread is great for using eggs and those browned bananas. It freezes well and is perfect for keeping on hand for overnight guests.

Upcoming Recipe: I found a flourless torte recipe that calls for 7 eggs, so I will make that for one of the Thanksgiving desserts. Recipe soon!
Stay tuned: for those who are raising chickens or who want to, I will share what I am doing to raise healthy, happy, organic chickens! Look at the difference below between the pricey store-bought eggs touted as happy free-range chickens and the color of our chicken egg yolks.
