Don't forget Black Friday sale!; Collagen protein powder brands to use and why; which magnesium test to ask your doctor for; holiday dark chocolate torte recipe
What you may not know about collagen protein powders
The Clean label project (cleanlabelproject.org) tests products for heavy metal content, pesticides, and herbicides. Their latest study on collage protein powders found only three tested met their safety criteria. The link is below to the article.
The article suggests that the brands are safe to consume without high heavy metal content.
BioOptimal Collagen Powder, Unflavored • Neocell Super Collagen • Puori CP1 Pure Collagen Peptides
The concern with heavy metals is not just for collagen protein powders. This is also an issue with other protein powders and green powders too.
Note: if you consume collagen protein powder, do not make this your main protein source. Collagen protein powder is not the same as other protein powders, such as whey which contains all the essential amino acids.

What magnesium test to ask your practitioner for when running a blood test
Many people are deficient in magnesium which plays a vital role in over 300 enzymatic processes in the body.
Signs and Symptoms that May Indicate You Need More Magnesium
You have depression, feel irritable often, have ADHD, autism, insomnia, or difficulty falling to sleep, have restless leg or muscle twitching, PMS, cramping, heart palpitations, heart disease, arrhythmia, or mitral valve prolapse, have migraines/headaches frequently, acid reflux, sensitive to loud noises, fatigue, asthma, constipation, excess stress, poor diet, kidney stones or diabetes.
How to know if your magnesium levels are low
Ask for an RBC magnesium test, as this is a better choice than a serum magnesium blood test. If the RBC magnesium is less than 6.0, you may want to supplement with magnesium taurinate and identify why your levels are low. The taurine component is a major carrier of magnesium into the RBC.
Are your levels low because you do not incorporate plant-based foods in your diet, or is it due to chronic stress, heavy drinking, digestive issues, or your medications?
A word of caution: magnesium is generally safe but avoid oral magnesium if you have renal disease since the ability of the kidneys to regulate magnesium properly is reduced. Transdermal is a safer option.

Holiday dark chocolate torte recipe
While our hens still lay eggs before they slow down in the winter, I am making plenty of egg recipes.
I made this torte recipe from https://www.wellplated.com
I used Enjoy Life brand dark chocolate and organic coconut sugar. I did not add almond extract or alcohol. I used grass-fed unsalted butter.
This recipe calls for 1 1/2 cups of sugar. Organic or coconut sugar-its all still sugar and is inflammatory. Reserve this recipe as a treat for special occasions. It is very dense and rich, so you only need a small portion, but it is oh-so-good!
I may miss a post next week due to the holiday-I hope you relax and enjoy the time with family and friends!
Happy Thanksgiving.

I wanted to read the paper on collagen but it doesn't open - I tried coping and pasting ;too, but that didn't work. I do use neocell, but it's the chewable collagen, which probably isn't the same as the one listed.
